I get the "tearjerkers" critique of melodrama as mechanical provocation of instinctive response, but it's not afforded recognition of the art available in - even compelled by - the novel arrangement of stock elements corresponding to residual human animality that's afforded to male-coded subculture-produced/mainstream-consumed entertainments as fearjerkers (roller coasters), scarejerkers (horror movies) or or erectionjerkers (porn) wait
