Yeah I really appreciate that this whole experience started with me being totally depersonalized and playing the Yakuza games and internalizing Kazuma Kiryu as my model of assertive masculinity, that’s possibly the healthiest option I can think of.

Actually now that I think of it you know what’s got a strikingly positive, age-graduated take on youthful sexuality and the sex trade? Yakuza.

Which I guess makes sense for a series about ideal Japanese masculinity – every one I can remember involves Kiryu standing up for children, warning teenagers about getting in over their heads with sketchy guys, and paying to consume 20somethings as courtesans and fap material.

And sometimes “stand up for children” means “buy a porn mag for an 8 year old ‘cause boy solidarity” or “encourage a 7yo girl to develop through a hobby while politely overlooking her dad pushing her as a girlfriend”, and the warning bit might involve appreciating the subtle differences in high school girls’ uniforms and panties up for sale, and other adult lessons include “it’s cool to be into your weird fetish, just don’t make other people be part of it”
