also it is with a heavy heart that i must inform you that tumblr isnt inherently better than twitter and having the ability to use More Words has not done anything in the past to give people on this hellsite any reading comprehension. we’re just lucky 😔
whats the point of having a glass house if youre not throwing stones
you know what nevermind that’s valid
entirely unrelated to the post, but what the fuck is going on in the replies
Fuck up up, fuck down down, fuck left right left right, fuck B, fuck A, fuck select, fuck start.
cha cha real smooth
Imagine getting to the end of this post and agreeing with OP that Tumblr isn’t inherently better than Twitter smh
I had a dream that the Tumblr staff said there was going to be a big update and we all started complaining but then the day of the update came and everything looked the same and everyone started scrambling to find what changed and then someone posted a supernatural gif about the situation and was immediately and publicly executed and it turns out the update was “if you mention Supernatural in the year of our lord 2021, we will kill you” and then we were like “this is the only good update we’ve ever gotten” and then we just. continued sh*tposting
Unironically sign of a healthy culture that the version of every half-million note post I see going around ends with a reblog comment redirecting the post’s charisma to the collective experience of “tumblr”
i am sitting on the couch, i hear tapping on the door behind me, i turn around and see this
what do i do
he is here….
i still lose it every time i see this post because someone let a fucking goose into their house just because tumblr said to and if that doesn’t perfectly define all of our experiences on this shitty excuse for a website i dont know what does
I appreciate that there are no explicit follower counts here but you still get a sense of who “the big accounts” are based on how often they get reblogged by how many people you follow with how many notes already, and how that kinda cultivates local elites
a select niche of boomers literally think Tumblr is supposed to be a hookup app and it’s very very funny to see them talk on Facebook about it from that angle, sometimes complaining about their lack of success. Sir the average person youre trying to flirt with is half your age and gay for a video game creature.
People talk of Tumblr history with all of the hushed tones of like, high school gossip. We need to drop that shit and go full open about it, like Charlie Murphy’s Hollywood Stories
“Yeah I’m the one who got text editing banned. Any two bit website gives me that power and some washed up Midwestern writer with his group of ‘Nerdfighters’, you bet I’d use it to say he loved the taste of dick. He might’ve deleted that post, but itll stay on here forevah.”
“So they organize this convention right? All these panels, all these fandom guys AND they were gonna get a ball pit…”
“Aight, so one day this Hamilton AU blog pops up by some Chinese-Pakistani human trafficking survivor living in India who said they got the HIV and had a eyeball removed-”
was a bit concerned earlier that maybe the ads on here were about to get good [in the sober business metrics sense], but luckily it seems they remain good [for occasional desultory adbloggers to poop on]
I think one of the major ways tumblr reminds me of the pre-smartphone 90s-2000s internet is that for like a decade now it’s been cruising on the assumption that the economics will make sense at some point
Weirdly providential how tumblr became Social Media For People Who Post Good and everyone else left for Twitter where they tell everyone who pays them attention that we’re dead
It is honestly amazing how well tumblr decanted its shit to Twitter, like we were a byword for everything awful about the 2010s and then everyone terrible was suddenly like “hey there’s a platform where reblogs invite everyone to the same comment section!”
The difference between “twitter is just like 2016 tumblr” and “tiktok is just like 2012 tumblr” is that the twitter ecosystem consists of people who migrated there from tumblr and did not change even a bit since then, while tiktok recreated the entire experience from whole cloth. speciation vs convergent evolution
Tumblr should just have a big Improbable Island style break-even donation meter because I think that the risk of losing the last bastion of social media I can actually use would be able to wring hundreds of dollars a year from me.
it is kind of funny how when I joined this site a decade ago, even in the context of a fairly gremlin-infested internet it was full of teenagers who acted absolutely atrocious and now it’s like the only place on the internet where people don’t fundamentally act like gremlin teenagers
