Travelling the state it’s interesting to see which crimes are folk crimes in each locale. In LA driving drunk ain’t no thang. In Santa Cruz people smoked in every bar I saw. I’m told San Francisco has the most robust and open prostitution culture in America, more than Vegas, and that everyone grows weed in Mendocino.

Bought the first Walking Dead compendium, to have something to read at meals. ‘sgood. Though at the end there the Governor seems like he came from another comic entirely. Preacher, to be specific.

I guess a lot of the zombie apocalypse appeal is the possibility for people to be settlers again, exterminating the natives and imposing their will on the world. Partially to be able to do it without guilt, partially just to have somewhere to do it at all.

Up in Berkeley now. There’s a girl I knew in college from this part of CA and poking around here makes me get her more, which I guess is the upbeat way of putting it, the other way is that I realized she wasn’t nearly as sui generis as I thought, and more of a mixture of types I just wasn’t familiar with. Coming from the east coast, it’s weird having people in the structural position of WASPS not be WASPy.
