More than any culture war thing the issue with Lady Ghostbusters was

  • everyone still invested in Ghostbusters was invested in the original films (not even the cartoon or toys!)
  • no one was invested in the concept of ghostbusting
  • no one was even that invested in the universe - I saw the occasional costume and there was Stranger Things, but I can’t remember the last time someone cared about proton packs or ECTO-1

also the original ghostbusters was an 80s blockbuster, which people often fail to recognize was a genre unto itself. new ghostbusters, like all recent reboots of 80s blockbuster franchises, was not part of this genre. it was a 2010s blockbuster, an entirely different (and worse) type of film. this is also the problem with the new star wars imo. it’s like if they remade lord of the rings in the style of game of thrones, it just wouldn’t work.

Jurassic World was absolutely, intentionally, a blockbuster-era movie, or at least a tribute to them
