As someone who actually had River City Ransom growing up, the Scott Pilgrim game with the Anamanagichi soundtrack might actually be my favorite version of the universe, and I’ve read the comic

(which is actually honestly kinda weird how much it specifically brings up Knives as a valid sexual agent for the purpose of cutting her out, like when she gets drunk and makes out with Kim and it specifically tells you that it’s not telling you about that? That’s weird.)

the movie didn’t change this and i’m surprised that 1. they didn’t and 2. people seemed to be awfully chill about it, both in the movie and out of it

tbh the skiffiest part of the Knives dynamic was how the only times I remember O’Malley directly addressing the reader were to invoke and then immediately disavow her physical sexuality (as distinct from just romantic longing) - “Let us never speak of this again” after she gets drunk and hooks up with Kim in Volume 4 and “but it was horrible for everyone and that includes you” when she makes out with Scott in Volume 6.

Oh also someone posted a Scott Pilgrim picture in my feed which reminds me to pass on a point I noticed before. And that is (correct me if I’m wrong):

The only place where the explicit authorial voice enters the Scott Pilgrim universe is to disavow Knives’ sexuality. First when she drunkenly makes out with Kim and it’s “and we shall never speak of this again”, and then in the last book where she finally kisses Scott and it’s “and it was terrible for everyone. including you.”
