Anonymous asked: How did the US end up with Bachelor’s degrees being half stuff that European countries cover in high school (only for students that are going to university) and half what you’re there to study? A U.K. BA is three years but that’s one more year of major courses than US students do, and nothing out of major. Is it something to do with SLACs, or a weak administrative state or the Progressives?
We think it’s hilarious that Germans call their serious high schools “gymnasium” b/c that’s what our high schools call recess
But part of it is that, we don’t have “serious” high schools, we have all-inclusive geographic high schools (but they use “tracking” to segregate by class and the “geography” is also striated by class but we pretend to overlook it because euro-style“class” has no validity in American mythology)
