I mean maybe pillarization might be the thing we need, honestly, and we need some vituperation for the initial separation, but in the long run that only really works when each pillar’s supporters will back their side to the death but each pillar’s elites respect each other more than their own supporters

If I turn on a Top 40 radio station these days it’s lite hip-hop. If I want rock-flavored pop I have to turn on a country station.

This is a strange inversion from just a decade ago when the popular music mainstream was broadly “everything but rap and country”
