Oh, so all NFTs and cryptocurrencies on the blockchain are ultimately reliant on a government subsidizing you by enforcing your claims to property rights? What a revolutionary technology
“You tell us not to throw the baby out with the bathwater; but don’t you know? It was the baby that made the bathwater dirty in the first place. We will never be done with dirty bathwater until we are free of the all-befouling baby.”
@haldora absolutely EVISCERATED me with the tag “Farscape feels like a BDSM AU fic for a more respectable sci fi show that doesn’t exist” and deserved to be recognized for that achievement
… and then there’s Lexx, which feels plucked from the fevered nightmares of a sleep-deprived Farscape fanfic author who thought they could lucid dream themselves into the techno-organic sci-fi orgy they wrote the afternoon before, but were too embarrassed to put online.
Feel like we missed the window where we could have a major otherkin celebrity. Gonna have to wait another 30 years for the wheel of culture to complete another revolution.
I’ve only ever seen scattered isolated episodes of Buffy and Angel but reading about Buffyverse and the discourses around it made me realize that the past 20 years of media analysis have simply been footnotes to late 90s/wary 00s Buffy fandom message boards
hate being the generation that remembers no ads on YouTube & the annoyance when we first saw 1 ad every 10 videos, then 1 every 5 videos, then on every video, then multiple ads within a single video, only for YouTube to market paying for Premium™️ to ‘get rid of ads!’ which weren’t even there at the start
it’s funny because people were paying money for you to watch stuff for free in the hope that if you found this service useful enough then in the future they could charge you for it, and you did, and they do! it’s win-win!
I showed my mom a lot of my Tumblr dash and I’m paraphrasing but she was like “oh, they’re making beautiful things, this is where the gay art kids went, that’s why Facebook is just people putting ugly shit”
Tumblr and Twitter really are evolving into a sort of evil-opposites situation, aren’t they? On Twitter you can post a high-definition video of yourself sticking a can of Red Bull up your ass but will get dinged for a terms-of-service violation for joking about a random C-list celebrity experiencing mild discomfort, while on Tumblr you can make death threats against the President but can’t show your nipples.
what’s that make facebook
Facebook is the evil opposite of 4chan.
Please elaborate. I wish to hear
Anonymity-as-moral-virtue versus compulsory total disclosure
Openly hostile to the notion of personal media exposure boundaries because toughen up snowflake versus actively encourages the formation of dysfunctional echo chambers
Majority of content is worthless due to an anything-goes culture that pushes people to be vile as a demonstration of in-group solidarity versus majority of content is worthless due to moderation policies that are at once overbearing and ineffective
Exploiting manufactured outrage over trivial shit as a grassroots fascist recruiting tool versus selectively exposing users to neo-Nazi content as a top-down strategy to drive advertising clicks
Like the Supreme Court, art has had a largely reactionary impact throughout history, but thanks to a handful of progressive wins in the mid 20th century everyone’s somehow convinced themselves otherwise
Awwwww the Catholic-sympathiser doesn’t like the liberals deciding to adopting “human dignity” rhetoric and making it mean “whatever we already considered important”? I can’t imagine where they’d have gotten the idea from!
crazy to think that if donald trump hadn’t become president he would be warmly remembered as a legendary poster who was racist and probably also a sexual harasser (things that do not stop you from being warmly remembered as a legendary poster)
