Bold of that anon to assume cleaning a house takes less than a year. I started decluttering the summer before COVID, and I'm still doing shit! Granted we moved in in '99 so a lot of it is also remodeling/repairing/painting, but occasionally there is a previously undiscovered closet full of detritus that needs sorting through. it's just how it happens.

I suffered from extreme anxiety that inhibited self-directed action and I hadn’t fully moved in 6 years ago and only arranged anything in the most general sense since. I wouldn’t call it “hoarding” but can tell that’s a more extreme manifestation of the same thing. As I go through things, now with the anxiety gone – things I’ve been dragging along with me for decades – I just throw the majority of it out.

Also like it’s not coming through on the same timeline as the yard work – there I factor a full day of work as about 4-6 hours and get out 4 or 5 times a week all summer, indoors I do something every day but the majority are under 15 minutes

Cleaned up the study (2nd bedroom). Two of those boxes are “whatever doesn’t go in another box” from previous moves, I haven’t needed it in over a decade but I should sort through to see if there’s anything worth keeping.

There’ll eventually be a desk under that left window (which looks on the side yard), the right one will be a door to the backyard and there’ll be a chair in the corner that pulls out to a bed or a futon or something. This’ll be the public way to the backyard, so guests aren’t tramping through my bedroom.

Might work up some projector thing to use the wall out of sight to the right as a screen. The 4th wall is a closet which I’m gonna combine with a hall linen closet to make space for a pinball table with some sorta replacement storage underneath to keep my lightbulbs and spare shampoo in.

Once I get the yard done, and the inside done, and arrange for cleaners, I’ve got a few miscellaneous side quests including getting my license renewed and Darwin back running and all the stuff that’s necessary for, and then doing the actual remodeling – from figuring which contractors to even get bids from to final buildout (but not the patio, I kinda want to get a sense how the house relates to the yard with doors in the bedroom first, I’ll just put in a step for now) – should take 2023 at least. I’m optimistic that by 2024 the culture will have ground through the turn far enough to be worth engaging again.

Think I'm finally at the point that tidying up rooms now makes the house look worse for revealing how cruddy the floors are.

Realized how to do the front door so there’s a tiled section with a bench with shoe storage opposite, that on the other side is a small bookshelf/drawers for keeping things at hand while I sit in the corner by the window, while giving me cover so I don’t feel so blindside-exposed when I have the door open for airflow.

Will obsolete my putting-on-shoes chair but I can reuse it in the study, and it’ll create a bay by the fireplace that I could remove the chair from and use for a Christmas tree

The Japanese name Karafuto comes from Ainu kamuy kar put ya mosir(Ainu : カムィ・カㇻ・プッ・ヤ・モシㇼ) which means “the island a god has created on the estuary (of Amur River)”.[citation needed] It was formerly known as Kita Ezo, meaning Northern Ezo
