also i was reading the memoirs of timur earlier bc im on a “primary source literature on central asian conquerers” binge i guess and he does this thing where he’ll talk about how his army completely destroys and pillages a city and enslaves the population and then he’ll be like “Since I am a Kind and Juse ruler I wouldve preferred they hadnt done that but they just started tearing everything to Hell so suddenly I figured they must have been possessed by God so far be it from me to defy divine providence” like he seems like kind of a dick
