(Okay so a minor theme of 2000 was that Al Gore was partially the inspiration for the movie’s male lead. This became part of a storyline that he was a braggart who claimed credit for other people’s work - like inventing the Internet - that was honestly whipped up from nothing. It was stupid, but the late 90s were a stupid time in American politics.)
