On the budget, interactions with the courts, anything, friendly reminder that Donald Trump’s longtime negotiating style is to open with extreme demands, extract concessions in return for dropping the more ridiculous positions, and call it a deal
In all the “haha ew Trump eats his steak well-done”, did no one connect that to the “he’s a fervent germophobe” thing? Like, of course dude takes meat the opposite of raw.
The influential but now mostly retired blogger Carles of Hipster Runoff also made liberal use of scare quotes, applying them even to apparently simple terms used in a literal sense, such as “website” and “understandable”.
This usage is, on the face of it, closer to Mr Trump’s than the more familiar usage, where a minister might refer to “hard Brexit” in scare quotes, because he doesn’t believe the term is accurate but wants to be understood.
When Mr Trump puts “hackers” in quotation marks, he does actually mean hackers, who he believes are genuinely hackers, and he isn’t obviously quoting someone else saying that. He just puts the important part of the sentence in quotes – like Carles.
I don’t think Trump’s a master mastermind throwing all these little distractions off as part of an overarching pre-planned scheme, but I can get where that comes from
like during the debates, the drunken master style where he’d seemingly take a big stumble that would somehow set him up for a hit at another meta level entirely
So this week he phrased something weird and people jumped on him for his sloppy speechmaking and somehow the result is normie-conservatives are getting catechized into /pol/s cautionary Legend of Sweden
Proposed: the best model for Trump’s cabinet is the Gilded Age, when Presidents with no previous
national political profile had to balance between securing their position
by distributing portfolios to allied factions and maintaining
chain-of-command loyalty
as compared to more recent models where
national party elites “audition” to head professional apparatuses whose
goals and personnel are broader than and prior to any given
administration
On an intellectual level I’ve thought for years that something like this could happen so the first week was a warm bath of vindication and victory laps, it’s actually now seeing it settle in to the patterns that’s uncanny.
Of course, you know me, it’s the little civic rituals that really throw me. Saw a tweet that was just like
Donald Trump is going to pardon a turkey
And I was like FUCK, that’s true.
Donald Trump is going to host an Easter egg roll for children
Donald Trump will throw out the opening pitch of Major League Baseball
I looked for that National Enquirer article cause I thought it would be funny if their take was less wild-eyed than Vox. But “My First 100 Days” “In His Own Words” just refers to that bullet-pointed subhed lifted from his official plan
We Told You So was an article though, 2 pages under the cover, a timeline piece on how his candidacy progressed and all the times the Enquirer had gotten something right the consensus got wrong
I shoulda got a copy now I think of it. It was clearly written to equate Trump’s superiority over the elites with the Enquirer’s, with the audience invited to parallel their own - I’ve wondered what primary sources might be unridiculous enough to do this election in AP US history and that’d be a good one.

hera: My marriage, it seemed, was the only area of my life in which I was willing to accept something less than perfection.
athena: Sorry losers and haters, but my I.Q. is one of the highest -and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault

hestia: I had some beautiful pictures taken in which I had a big smile on my face. I looked happy, I looked content, I looked like a very nice person, which in theory I am.
hephaestus: Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!

“[Peter] Kim said audiences have gotten more abusive in the past year and has heard people use the ‘f’ word, alluding to a slur against gays.
“The straw that broke the camel’s back for me was a man was sitting next to a Hispanic couple,” Kim said. “We asked a question to another lady, completely different lady, we said, ‘Hey, ma’am, what is something small that pisses you off, like getting stuck in traffic.‘”
The man, unsolicited, screamed out, ‘Sitting too close to a Mexican,’ while sitting next to a Hispanic couple.“
“In 44 years of this work, I’ve never seen anything like it. The audience seems to feel like they have license in very unpleasant ways,” he added. “Ninety-nine percent of people are cool. But the jerk who used to keep his mouth shut now feels like he has the right to say something.”
Second City’s longtime owner Andrew Alexander said he has noticed a
spike in inappropriate audience behavior in the last six or seven
months, which was not common before now. He said he “absolutely” blames
such a rise in racist attitudes to the recent political climate that
encourages “certain demographics on the Trump side” to voice their
opinions.
So under the influence of Donald Trump the comedy world is getting cruder, with more aggression and racial humor, driving out SJWs.
Right now he’s indoctrinating people that sexual assault is a joke charge that unworthy women - who should be mocked and punished - use to take down great men.
I’ll be damned, but dude’s actually delivering on the shitlord issues.
