Anonymous asked: No I'm an American and its totally a thing, I've been noticing more and more in New York City, DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and also just East Coast people in general seemingly more and more obsessed with cowboy culture, yes some of it superficially, but that's literally every fad ever. Cowboy emoticons and hats and all sort of weird more in-depth cowboy howdy Old West memes everywhere here. Idk I guess we should just nuke Texas and bordering and also the Mountain time zone to stop this

>Continued from last ask: But I do get the sense that even more than the East Coast and California and a lot of Red States of course driving the seeming explosion of interest in cowboy culture, even more so it’s Europeans especially and Australians and maybe even Latinos/Central and South Americans and foreigners in general completely fascinated by cowboy culture. idk like I said nuke Texas, the states bordering it, and all the mountain west states before its too late(probably is but we can try)

Anonymous asked: Germans *adore* cowboys and I can't figure out why. I kept being asked if I could ride a horse and was a cowboy (I'm from New England.) There's a cottage industry of Ecuadorians and Peruvians doing fake cowboy-and-Indian gigs in front of the Brandenburg Gate, which my half-Iñupiaq cousin reacted quite justifiably to with "what the actual fuck is this shit".

The Americas were the German frontier, before there was a Germany to colonize them people left for there

A big chunk of the US spoke German all along up til WWI where there was some serious anti-German repression

(The Americas were also the frontier for Pacific nations that didn’t have their own colonies, which is why Peru had a leader named Fujimori and why America had the Chinese Exclusion Act)

Also for a while Germans analogized themselves to Native Americans when they were getting back into their forest hippie tribal roots in the late 19th century, Old Shatterhand and that

Anonymous asked: What's behind the recent cowboy resurgence in America? My first guess would be the Westworld TV series, but from the outside that didn't seem big enough.

kontextmaschine:

I… where are you getting this from? Like what country are you in now and what are the examples you see of “cowboy resurgence”? I’m not seeing this from inside America.

Red Dead Redemption 2, maybe

Oh and there was the “Old Town Road” thing, which was a song that crossed some genre- and racial lines (and the genre lines were really racial the whole time) last month

But those two things just happened the same time by chance
