People who say it’s nerd minstrel miss the point. It’s an extremely prototypical Chuck Lorre sitcom that happened to have “nerds” as its gimmick.
Which what I can tell, even that setting has lost further meaning over time, both because trying to be nerdy young single men for a decade-plus is impossible (without either getting out of it or getting really depressing in going further down the rabbit hole) and also because nerd culture, if it means anything at all, took a very horrific turn in general in the 2010s. So it’s a very prototypical Chuck Lorre sitcom that depended on it being 2007 forever. That makes sense.
Aren’t the characters all married now or something anyway?
Yeah Chuck Lorre is from the old Borscht Belt-derived sitcom tradition where the details of any show are just window dressing on the same stock types reenacting the same age-old stock plots.
Like, remember when Chuck Lorre based a show around a louche wealthy Charlie Sheen-type bachelor and then cast Charlie Sheen in the Charlie Sheen role, until he couldn’t stand how crap it was and how much more interesting he could make a “Charlie Sheen” character himself?
