Used to think he was an intellect, all cocking his head and looking when I was opening a door, trying to figure it out.

Now starting to suspect he just has some golden retriever in him, homeboy will stand outside a door cracked enough to nose through and meow and pull at it from underneath.

I prefer the angular muzzle of American domestic cats to the rounded face of Japanese AND IM NOT AFRAID TO SAY IT

I’d heard of it certainly, but this is the first time I’ve actually had a picky eater as a cat. Only wet food he’ll reliably eat is Friskies’ Beef Bits in Gravy, and I guess that works so I’ve got a big supply of it on hand, but I’m still trying to test out other kinds for variety.

Out of I guess the same vanity that leads people to feed their cat Fancy Feast or vegan grains, a notion of their gustatory satisfaction as an extension of mine.

Anyway so as this goes on I’ve been sampling the varieties, obviously, and they do taste like they’re labelled - the flavor profiles aren’t in perfect balance, but all the right notes are there. They taste like that for maybe 1.2 seconds, and then they all go to this weird metallic aftertaste, the only thing I’ve ever tasted like it is “foxy”, the flavor note of wine made from American labrusca grapes (like a particularly savory rock).

I’m guessing maybe it’s a particulary evaporative, quick-dissipating flavoring ‘cause the main point is to communicate the flavor to the pet owner’s nose while they’re serving it?

sometimes when I am agitated my kitten will come up and demonstratively look vulnerable and place a paw on my floor-seated leg

to calm me, as if some shaman sent here to solve the condition of humanity
