I will think “I love my cat”, but definitely “I have a good relationship with my cat” rather than “I have a particularly great cat”
Badger’s always been really good at realizing when I was out of sorts and being concerned for me and cutting me slack on insisting on things.
Badger has made the connection that if I haven’t fed him by 9 I’m probably doing yard work out back and to come meow at me there
he has made the connection to the point of doing it at 7:40 and keeping it up, same as if I was inside.
Badger getting bold about stealing my food then getting pissy about being shut out when I eat.
Badger just brought home a rodent, meowed at me to congratulate him, and that done now is crunching through him.
Badger’s totally more needy and clingy the day after the vet, he’s hopping up and hanging out on my bed after skritches like he hasn’t for half a year, he isn’t meowing for food until past 9s, it makes me uncomfortable that the most reliable way I’ve found to have a good, easygoing relationship with my cat is occasionally remind him to appreciate me by inducing a sudden sense of abandonment and trauma
The fact that I slipped drugs in his food and held him down to stuff him in a bag for people to prod at and stick needles in earlier today seems to have left Badger more approval-seeking and less confrontational
Took Badger to the vet today. The gabapentin really helps, he still fought getting put in his carrier but he was really lazy and halfassed about it
After years of Badger bringing rodents and birds home to show off, I woke up today to the first two that were actually consumed, a bird with its belly torn out and a wing broken off and a mouse that was really a head attached by spine to an abdominal sac

He regularly now jumps from this window to a ledge on the outside of the chimney in the same place, but it took him like a week to get psyched up for that and he’s only on day 2 of this one.
Spending a lot of time next to him like this this season.
realizing that it’s an important defining fact of my and Badger’s relationship that when I’m tired I go to one specific location to sleep and stay there

Badger has learned he can totally just bite down on a chicken breast and take off, which is proving an issue
It is honestly hilarious how short and fine Badger’s coat is now after that heat wave
Badger honestly seems to be newly appreciating the ability to sprawl around in daytime rather than stay curled up in the dark corner behind the TV
Is Badger ok in the heat?
Yeah, with trees shading the house over and the windows open for a cross-breeze it’s not too bad inside, and cats are ancestrally adapted to deserts anyway (that’s why their piss smells so terrible; they hyper-concentrate ammonia to save water). He’s just moving languidly and curling up in dark corners, I’m keeping his water full and I’ll drop some ice cubes in if it gets too bad.
I honestly kinda like that every time we have an annoying new kind of weather Badger meows at me to turn it off
