Aw, Badger's here!
Aw, Badger’s here!
My “yell at him if he meows too early but be very attentive to feeding him if he waits patiently” has trained Badger pretty well by now
Badger’s old enough now he spends a lot of time sleeping he used to spend lying down but awake or aimlessly meandering from room to room
Was a coyote howling outside within three blocks two weeks ago, which having an outdoor pet I wasn’t thrilled about, but Badger seemed suitably wigged and then he moved on
Gets me thinking about Dog as an totem in the Seattle-based Shadowrun
Now thinking about now-awkward race-themed specialties in 90s TTRPGs
(Both Vampire and Werewolf were clearly originally riffs on 90s PNW subcultures)
Remember the Tzimicse, the boneshaper vampires, so it was like “ooh, we’re not the gypsy ones, we represent orthodontists”
And really, most of the bad stories I hear about are small dogs penned in backyards by fences, whereas when he encounters me at night Badger likes to show off how he can climb to the second story of an 70 degree-sloped tree trunk on a moment’s notice
Can feel Badger’s hair thickening and coarsening up for the cold.
Badger getting weirded out that with full power back and my dojo blocking training every way he tries to bite my wrist I can rotate the arm to give him a mouth full of bone
Was a coyote howling outside within three blocks two weeks ago, which having an outdoor pet I wasn’t thrilled about, but Badger seemed suitably wigged and then he moved on
Cats in nature (and Badger has gone outdoors since he was 2) are crepuscular – they go out hunting around daybreak and twilight, when nocturnal or diurnal prey isn’t at their best – which has the effect Badger now naps in the brief daytime between them but loafs at night
I can get in bed when Badger is up on it and he’ll stay there now.

I’m sitting here and he’s trying to get me to open the window for him
Should not have been surprised to learn that Badger, who eats bugs, will consume the ripped-off tail of shrimp

He comes by for this several times a day
Remembering how twitchy he was in his first years its amazing to me how little Badger will rouse himself in response to things, I just sat down hard on a mattress next to where he was sprawled out sleeping and he barely lifted his head and mrred at me
Badger totally in the “huh I don’t have any problem with you… but life would be more interesting if I did” part of staying inside mode

Walking down the street saw a cat poised in front of a house down the block and was like “a new friend!” Nope, Badger.

I’d been spending a lot of time in my room so I came out front cause I could tell Badger wanted to hang out with me there.
Woke up this morning, the sun was at the point I had a sense I was supposed to go into the kitchen for some reason, stood there with Badger meowing at me wondering what the hell I was there for.
