How do you watch Republicans getting elected and not get terrified of what they're trying to do to your trans friends and family?
That might be a concern if a straight-line projection of current trends that worry you is realized and comes into being at a flat general level, but from a thorough grounding in American history I don’t expect that! Even without specifics in mind I know I have a sense of how long things take and how long you get between phases of the cycle and how things get traded off against each other
To set aside the fact that we are talking about fucking Oregon, andtoeven reestablish themselves as a party that sometimes gets power the Republicans have to take this opportunity to prove and accommodate themselves to the state. I honestly don’t even see the state banning youth transition unless we’re in a position the country is already.
They might let school boards in traditionalist-as-in-1986 areas be unaccomodating.
And if any of my trans friends were like, 14 living in Southern Oregon I might be more concerned, but they aren’t! Also I don’t have trans family!
Also since the personality change where COVID wiped out my anxiety I’m physically incapable of getting worried about things! That’s not hyperbole!
So at this point if I put my palm flat against my chest and slide it down the front of my torso I never feel my belly begin as a distinct region. This means I’m now thinner than since I was 10, though more muscled.
Nice, but once again weird how I’d long had some sense that at some point in the future I would just become thin and sexy and suave for no particular reason, without implementing any particular change and yeah, that’s exactly what happened.

Seeing dumb stuff going by and honestly it’s very easy to let it go by since the personality change, “someone is wrong on the internet” is apparently another one of those things mediated by anxiety.
But even beyond, reminding myself that spending my time analyzing it won’t convince them to do better, the bold stridence of their assertion of yesterday’s new hegemony combined with the way they don’t even notice how the ground’s shifted under their feet means they’re going to fall on their ass on their own before they have a chance to fuck anything further up for me if I keep my distance, it might be useful in “lessons learned” debriefing time in 6-10 years but it’ll be more impactful the better position I can deliver it from, and it honestly doesn’t have much anything to do with the positioning steps in the interim.
So anarkiddies on Twitter are deciding that with the anti-trans right going in on “rapists”, “groomers”, etc. that the riot grrl-90s elder types throwing around “kill your local rapist” slogans are enemies, or at least unsafe, and so as these things go to be mass-harassed and purged.

the whole ‘internet prophecy apollo’ thing is interesting in that like. 20 or so years ago it might have been good scifi. the idea that the net would grow so large, and have such a surge of information going through it at any one time, that it would occasionally predict future events with stunning precision. monkeys on typewriters, but realised through humans on keyboards. it’s at the same time terrifying and mundane - which is, I guess, emblematic.
