WHY do cars in car commercials these days have real license plates that are all totally there but painted to match the body in a way that makes it even more ridiculous?

Every “city”-set car commercial is shot in an 8-square block section of downtown LA (in fairness LA blocks are huge) and it’s a testament to the power of cinematography that I only glancingly notice this having lived down the street
