As far as I can tell from secondhand media it seems like kind of a bridge between two subgenres of YA, the old <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newbery_Medal\" target=\"_blank\">Newbery</a>-bait \u201c<a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_novel#Young_adult_problem_novel\" target=\"_blank\">problem novel</a>\u201d (\u201cI\u2019m just a teenager, but oh no, abuse/cancer/racism/eugenics/the fucking Holocaust\u201d) and the \u201800s Teen Paranormal Romance (\u201cwe\u2019re just teenagers, but I found a perfect boyfriend, also he\u2019s a vampire/werewolf/gypsy mystic/fucking literal angel\u201d), melding them into some sort of \u201cI\u2019m just a teenager, but oh no, cancer, but I found a perfect boyfriend, but oh no, cancer\u201d Frankenstein.</p>\n<p>And it\u2019s a <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_cannula\" target=\"_blank\">nasal cannula</a>.</p>"}
