With their strength in nuclear reactor design and operation, ammunition stores supplant fuel stocks as a major limiting factor of U.S. Navy operational endurance; if they could replace bulky, vulnerable chemical-propellant ammunition with pure energy from said reactors they’d have less need for the bases.
