Anyway I didn’t actually get to the pool yesterday, apparently from this “nationwide lifeguard shortage” they were only running the shallow kids’ half. Wonder if that’s why they’re closing promptly next Sunday before school starts the following Tuesday.

But recalling the times before that, it just shows how wild it is trying to relearn muscle use (like I had to do walking, talking, or throwing) where you remember the main movement fine but all the little unconscious things it depends on are all wiped so you do it and it’s just an absolute failure.

Like, I remember how to swim like doing the strokes, it’s just that doesn’t keep me afloat or produce any actual propulsion now.

The most reliable thing I realized was that as I moved my limbs through the water I was instinctively bending and fluttering and moving with the flow to find the path of least resistance. But since motion in water comes from the reaction of pushing against it, I really want to make my limbs rigid and seek greatest resistance.

Things like that. A bit more pitching to firm up pelvic stability and I’ll be ready to try riding a bike again, I’m curious how that goes. I’m pretty sure I won’t immediately be able to ride hands-off again, at least.
