Something maybe obvious to others but a tweet yesterday really clarified for me is that the thing with the weird excerpts we’ve seen from the Barbie movie \u2013 Ken’s job and idiom of male status competition being “beach”, his having a sense that after a good date a man would sleep over at the woman’s house but no idea why \u2013 isn’t that the characters are vapid, it’s that these are Barbies as being played with by little girls, who don’t really understand the adult world they’re burlesquing.
