Just because a proposition works in the UK doesn\u2019t mean it will necessarily translate beyond these borders. Overseas markets have often been a graveyard for the ambitions of British firms in the past as they\u2019ve struggled to replicate their homeland success, perhaps because of cultural or management issues. Greggs itself abandoned a five-year effort in Belgium (seen as a launchpad for wider European expansion) in 2008.
For now, investors would settle for execution on the domestic opportunity. This won\u2019t be easy, given the inflationary pressures, supply chain issues and staff shortages which Greggs, like any number of businesses, is facing.
