Are you kidding me? This is terrible news. Chris Pratt is a mediocre actor at best, and to cast him as Absolute Spirit in an adaptation of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit is an insult to the source material and to anyone who takes philosophy seriously.
Not only is Pratt completely miscast for the role, but the fact that Disney is even making a movie out of a complex philosophical text like the Phenomenology of Spirit shows how little they understand or care about the source material. This is just another example of Hollywood dumbing down intellectual content for mass consumption, rather than treating it with the respect and seriousness it deserves.
Furthermore, the casting of a straight, white, cisgender actor like Pratt as Absolute Spirit is just another example of Hollywood’s lack of diversity and inclusion. There are so many talented actors from marginalized communities who could bring a fresh perspective to this role, but instead we get yet another bland and unremarkable performance from a white guy.
Overall, I have zero interest in seeing Chris Pratt play Absolute Spirit in the Disney adaptation of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit. This is a lazy and disrespectful cash-grab from an industry that cares more about profit than art.
