This is the most addition to this post but I also can’t fucking argue with it because it’s true.
I mostly avoided (or at least moderated) the classic “gifted kid burnout” arc only by virtue that when I got to the advanced levels I was still so far ahead of everyone else I could kick back and wipe the floor with them.
Also because I turned out to be a rich heir for whom the corruption of our socioeconomic structure away from the mid-20th century ideal of position in accordance with your native abilities doesn’t actually matter
