This is absolutely delightful, and would have been the bonsai related apex of my year if it weren’t for the fact that earlier today, while googling what to do about my very very strong baby ficus boy literally cracking his pot into four pieces overnight with the sheer vigor of his roots, I discovered another actively hilarious bonsai tree.
A remarkable tree which is well known for its extremely high age; the tree is reported to be over 800 years old! Its owner, master Kunio Kobayashi, is one of the most well known Bonsai artists in the world and has won the prestigious Prime Minister award in Japan 4four times. His nursery, Shunkaen, is located in Tokyo and is open to visitors.
So like, obviously master Kobayashi is only responsible for the most recent and peripheral period of this tree’s growth, which he was put in charge of presumably on account of having a good reputation already (or maybe his merchant skill at being a nursery owner) so it feels kinda weird to give him credit for
