I was wondering what it must’ve been like in say the 1950s where it was common to think pro wrestling was fully real sport (though not universally believed and there was notable regional differences but different topic) and seeing a match where a manager trips their fighter’s opponent and it doesn’t result in a long term ban afterwards or seeing the The Original Sheik and he just straight up tries stabbing a guy in the face with a pencil and going along with that as a real sport when nothing remotely close to that would be tolerated in boxing (it could happen sure but a boxer pulling that would still get blacklisted) but then I realized that if an NHL style fight happened in any other major American sports league you might see the entire team given a DQ loss and suspended from play so like ok yeah I can see how 1950s steel mill worker would be like “damn this sport is fucking nuts with how they just give slaps on the wrist for everything but whatever I’m into it”
