Catholics and mainline Protestants both do baptism by sprinkling some water on the baby’s forehead, as far as I know. The only people who do full baptism by immersion are baptists and some evangelicals. It’s been a pretty long time since baptism by immersion was done as the general procedure.
Does anyone still do daubing-oil-on-forehead anointing for anything? Where would I have such a specific sense of it (with the thumb) from?
