My high school girlfriend’s parents dealt and the stuff we could get from them in the late 90s was considered otherworldly because it had red hairs in it. It was so much immensely stronger than anything else you could find at the time, even among well-connected people, that I assumed it was the strongest in the world.
By the standards of today’s dispensaries, that weed would be far, far, far too weak to be offered. The very lowest THC content I can find it like 20% now. Just spitballin’ from personal consumption, I’d say the super duper high-end shit from the late 90′s, literally just 20-ish years ago, was maybe 6-7%.
I’m still fully in favor of legalization and everything, but anyone who says that today’s weed is comparable to that of the 90′s, let alone the fucking 70′s, has no fucking idea what they’re talking about.
Yeah, back in my hometown they used some schwag/mids/chronic system to understand things but through college it was really “whatever your guy has”, in “medical” LA in the 2000s I first even heard of indica/sativa and just the fact that you would have a choice between named strains that would recurrently be in stock for you to recognize and have loyalty to changed the game
By the time in Oregon around 2015 I switched to vape cartridges, their system had everything tested and labeled and like “a high THC strain” of flower meant like the mid-30s
