btw in North America, a sustainable future most likely means hunting for a lot of our meat. Not that I think meat from domestic animals should be eliminated or will be, just that most of our native animal species can be eaten and don’t need the destruction of habitats to be harvested.
Everyone knows deer, but everything from possums to alligators and rattlesnakes can be eaten and made to taste good. There is, no lie, an illegal trade in alligator snapping turtle meat here in my state.
And we all should be making room for feral hogs in our diets…
people: we could grow crops instead of eating meat and that would be more sustainable
me:
Ok but Jewish people and Muslims can’t have feral hogs.
And I don’t think venison is Kosher or Halal either
Muslims can’t have rabbit meat
OP did you think this through???
Don’t worry, the OP (me) made a post that discusses things that accommodate for these concerns (the post you literally just read)
you didn’t list a single kosher animal on your list of things that can be made to taste good tho :(
and part of kosher/halal is how the animal is killed, and hunting doesn’t let that happen, so there *has* to be domestication
who is going around telling people that deer are trayf
hoof status: divideth
cud status: cheweth
as for the issue of ritual killing. if you have reached a situation where you need to hunt to eat (not for sport or whatever) and your rabbi is telling you it’s not lawful then you need to find a better rabbi.
jfc people, at that point either your religion accommodates your circumstances or you find a new one
