But the REG is common enough, and easy enough to get fed up with, that when someone finally wrote an essay about him, everyone, including me, had something to say.\u00a0</p>\n<p>2.\u00a0</p>\n<p>The thing about that whole \u201cyou can\u2019t judge a novel until you\u2019ve written one\u201d line is that, yes, it\u2019s silly. If that\u2019s the case, then no-one, except novelists, should be reading.\u00a0</p>\n<p>But I tried to write one, last month, just in case.
