{"version": "1.0", "type": "rich", "title": "Thinking that as a YIMBYist \"they froze urban housing in the 70s, we've gotta break the freeze!\" catches on there'll be more...", "author_name": "kontextmaschine", "author_url": "https://kontextmaschine.com", "provider_name": "kontextmaschine", "provider_url": "https://kontextmaschine.com", "url": "https://kontextmaschine.com/post/694599003018559488/", "html": "<p>Thinking that as a YIMBYist &ldquo;they froze urban housing in the 70s, we&rsquo;ve gotta break the freeze!&rdquo; catches on there&rsquo;ll be more hooks for a &ldquo;they froze the structure of social relations in the 80s!&rdquo; parallel, that just like as the cities started to empty yuppie &ldquo;preservationists&rdquo; pushed back efforts to update them with &ldquo;Manhattanizing&rdquo; density and reigned as self-satisfied lords of their obsolete netherworld for decades but now we gotta move on and build the towers they didn&rsquo;t, the &ldquo;family values&rdquo;, nesting nuclear family in-home artisanal childraising thing was similarly a push-back on contemporary &ldquo;open marriage&rdquo;, swinging, latchkey &ldquo;it&rsquo;s 10 o'clock, do you know where your&rdquo; childraising trends towards post-familiism that we&rsquo;ve got to renew because we&rsquo;ve hit the limits of the retro structures the 70s yuppies took us back to.</p><p>(what are you going to say, that nuclear family parenting must be defended because it&rsquo;s necessary to the continuation of our society and culture? Look at the population numbers, it <i>already</i> doesn&rsquo;t satisfy that end!)</p><p>I also wonder if there&rsquo;s space for an elite/nonelite cleavage there \u2013 like, sure <b>they</b> got to live in artist lofts, the price was <b>you</b> had to live in a soulless suburb, sure <b>they</b> got to take the city back from crack gangs (effectively unparented kids forming into fraternal bands with territory and an economic basis\u2026 that <b><i>was</i></b> post-familism) <b>you</b> had to live under church ladies, etc.</p>"}
