Yeah, the Pathfinder APG is definitely the modern template, and then the Witcher 3’s popularity added a dash of Geralt to the rouge/paladin feel in the latest interations. Before then, they were usually only seen as antiheroes or villains in Grimdark/low fantasy settings.
And honestly, they’re a terrible fit for heroic, laissez-faire polytheistic settings.
