I’ve done it myself at home, although you do need a very steady hand. I wouldn’t recommend waiting for it to work it’s way out, that seems like an infection risk.
The thing you have to realize its when you clean your contacts that’s not to stop them from damaging your eyes, that’s to keep your eyes from damaging them. The self-cleaning features of the eye predate humanity.
