I’ve had the contact thing happen to me, all the optometrist would do is flip your upper eyelid up so it’s partially inside out, then rinse the lens free with sterile solution or reach above your eye with some very skinny tweezers and snag it. I’ve done it myself at home, although you do need a very steady hand. I wouldn’t recommend waiting for it to work it’s way out, that seems like an infection risk.
