Catholics often have a picture of him in their cars next to that old sticker for the London congestion fee from 2017 when they thought they&rsquo;d drive to the UK to see what it&rsquo;s all about before Brexit.</p></blockquote><p>Are tradcaths (as an explicitly chosen lifestyle, generally recent and mildly reactionary, distinct from practicing Catholics who have been Catholic all or most of their life) even a thing in Europe?</p><p>I\u2019d assumed that the particular expression of\u00a0\u2018overcompensate for modernity by changing your lifestyle wildly and performatively\u2019 where the lifestyle chosen was Performatively Catholic was specifically an American thing.</p><p>We don\u2019t have enough \u2018normal\u2019 Catholics to see that kind of thing around. Well, maybe in some communities that are still heavily Polish/Irish/Italian (and usually also working-class, the more bourgeois ones aren\u2019t as reliably Catholic).
