I think the narrative Dead Girl (Laura Palmer, Alice Palmer, Abigail Hobbs etc) can be compared to a whale fall in the way that, had she not died and sunk and began to rot in the center of the story, there would be no story at all.

She dies to feed everything else. And while she\u2019s alive, she knows she\u2019s too heavy to be mourned and forgotten. She knows she\u2019s meat for other things and carries the weight of her own grave.
