Are you asking me why I think it’s a bad thing that people repeatedly making up stories about secret cabals of sex traffickers prowling America to abduct women off the streets?
In reality, most victims of sex trafficking are already in some other extremely vulnerable position like high-risk street-level sex work, migrant agricultural labor, the foster care/child welfare system, or are trafficked by a family member.
The idea that there are organized gangs of kidnappers prowling small town America for victims ignores the complex reality of sex trafficking in favor sensationalist scaremongering.
I’d like to add that it doesn’t mean that random kidnapping don’t exist, that’s not what the post is saying, just that it’s not sex trafficking.
Random kidnapping is extraordinarily rare. You are more likely to die by falling out of bed.
Also a point is these things require charismatic power from some preexisting social dynamic to work – like if you actually read Iceberg Slim or look behind ‘90s rap, pimping is a skill, grabbing someone out of a parking lot and dragging them up and down I-5 and leaving them in motel rooms with clients relying for control on direct threat alone would be impossible. Captives kept locked in your basement for sexual use for years will still run away given the chance.
