God, who else remembers travelers’ checks?
Like before ATMs and credit cards, bringing enough money to a travel destination that was too far away to recognize and trust the bank your checks were written against was an issue! Major destination hotels have safes in the room (if they’re modern as in 1984, before that there were safe deposit boxes at the front desk!) largely in case you’re carrying a large amount of cash you want to secure (also to keep the cleaning staff from pilfering your jewelry)
