Realizing the huge reservoir of flatland air that exchanges with the ocean through mountain passes in a stream above the Columbia River (that Portland is along) moderates and delays temperature changes not only in the sense it’s nighttime-chilly until 2PM and daytime-warm until 2AM, but it also means open window season doesn’t really hit until near the actual start of summer but it lasts pretty deep into fall
