why is dentistry more right wing than real estate?
As has already been pointed out in the comments, dentists are wealthy independent proprietors and classic local gentry (not to mention an outlier in terms of “medical” professions, as their education revolves primarily around technique and has been shockingly resistant to scientific research or evidence-based practice)
As for real estate, take one look at housing prices and development policy in your local urban area and then ask yourself who’s on city council
Do you have anything to substantiate the part about dentistry being “shockingly resistant to scientific research or evidence-based practice?” Im interested in what you mean, I was under the impression that at least in some states you had to periodically recertify or something whcih requires keeping up to date with the state of practice but idk
Yeah, medical professions have always been pretty Republicans. Doctors aren’t as Republican as they used to be (they were as professionals part of the small town elite, a major pre-Establishment Conservative component of the Republican Party) but they’re still significantly more Republican than you’d expect from their demographic profiles otherwise (post-graduate education, even minorities, etc.). Dentists – who as practices progressed through the 20th century maybe came out more on the business operation side of things – still intensely so
