I cannot emphasize enough that the valence of this stuff flipped when the wave crested, it’s not “they are making advances”, it’s “they just created an exposed salient”. WSFS and SFWA are organizations of writers that were calibrated in a pre-Internet era where the role of (business-minded) publishers and agents ballasted them, they were vulnerable to ideological capture; successor organizations founded in a modern era of modern pressures will be armored against
that said, romantic fantasy has been a vulnerable target for a while now (https://prokopetz.tumblr.com/post/149052648292/wrangletangle-lizziegoneastray-prokopetz) and Lackey being a venerable figure doesn’t mean she was an especially powerful one. Sometimes being one of the old guard just means you were the last to pack it in.
