Yeah, fascism continues to be a legitimate part of the political system in Italy, in part because the PCI was one of the strongest Communist parties outside the Soviet bloc, under any unrigged system they could be expected to take power at some point at which point they would be expected to rig the system to hold power indefinitely and defect to the Soviet bloc. They were too big to exclude completely however, so the resultant system encouraged fracturing, with the PCI counterbalanced with the Catholic Church-linked Christian Democracy, the two swimming in a sea of every local and ideological faction you could think of (Italy only came into existence as a country in the 19th century, assembled from sources with strong and distinct political cultures of their own, the line about Mussolini “making the trains run on time” was about him establishing national administrative uniformity across old borders) who could be bribed into famously, comically unstable coalitions which sufficed to… keep Italy existing, I guess.
Like, the Italian fascists who used to run that zentropista account, Casa Pound, were once a party specifically focused on the housing crisis.
