(This <a href=\"http://www.gizmodo.com/527375/the-sex-robot-hobby-is-already-making-a-fortune-and-we-didn-t-even-know-it\" target=\"_blank\">link</a> and <a href=\"http://money.cnn.com/2014/01/26/technology/sexbots-fantasy-technology/\" target=\"_blank\">this</a> don&rsquo;t have much to say about the research, and the only link has the &ldquo;15.5%&rdquo; statistic)</p><p>Here are the questions they asked, in the context of an article about other technologies:</p><blockquote class=\"npf_indented\"><p><b>Sex robots</b></p></blockquote><blockquote class=\"npf_indented\"><p>We&rsquo;ve asked respondents about everything from a life-sized animatronic octopus to a vibrator that doubles as a personal shopper. The data we get back is as varied and surprising as the way some of our respondents speak about their lives.</p></blockquote><blockquote class=\"npf_indented\"><p>This seems to me like it&rsquo;s <i>probably</i> just an artifact of this particular study, given that their question is asking about sex robots in the abstract, and is not really focused on whether people own or use sex robots (the &ldquo;ownership/use&rdquo; option is <i>right</i> at the bottom, and <i>has</i> a small but consistent majority, and in the table, &ldquo;ownership&rdquo; and &ldquo;use&rdquo; appear together, separated by an all-caps column heading.)</p></blockquote><p>It also may be possible to see a link between sex robots and ownership/use on other axes \u2013 for example, I was going to say &ldquo;owners/users of sex robots might be more likely to have an unusual sex life&rdquo; \u2013 but as with all surveys it&rsquo;s hard to separate what&rsquo;s actually there (a link) from what is <i>just</i> there (someone said &ldquo;sex robots&rdquo; or &ldquo;owners/users of sex robots&rdquo; somewhere in their answers)</p><p>I don&rsquo;t know if there&rsquo;s a &ldquo;real&rdquo; link between owning sex robots and weird sexual practices, but a lot of survey-takers have sex robots <i>in their homes</i> which probably has something to do with it, so</p></blockquote>", "thumbnail_url": "https://kontextmaschine.com/media/cda713de688a018cd94b2b168e9a63b43715871a_b7763cc1136e.png", "thumbnail_width": 400, "thumbnail_height": 305}
