so the molotov cocktail thing is propaganda to encourage citizens of Ukraine to rally behind the war effort, right? even against riot cops the only thing a molotov cocktail will get you is shot, and against artillery it just means your body will also be on fire.

is there a specific thing I didn’t hear about or is this about the effectiveness of molotov cocktails in general?

because like motolov cocktails are specifically a thing made to fight off the russian army and it’s pretty good at it

I’m seeing them fight off the Russian army right now with drones, RPGs, and sniper rifles and it’s going okay, I don’t think lobbing bottles is going to do much against tanks and rockets though.

I mean the Finnish Army distributed them to all their soldiers in the Winter War, that’s where they got the name (a toast to the Soviet Foreign Minister!). They are very useful against enemy armor.

Yeah, like .50 cal rifles they have a generic badass anti-personnel reputation but they’re really an anti-vehicle weapon; you might not burn through armor but consuming oxygen, melting drivetrain components, creating smoke, or fire getting into the necessarily airbreathing components of the engine compartment where combustion occurs can all be useful
