Gallup results suggest that 4% of the US identifies as bi, 1.5% as gay, 1% as lesbian, 0.7% as trans, and 0.3% as various others
unsurprisingly much higher for younger people, but also kind of crazy how big the gap is even between millennials and gen z.
kind of surprised by the gender gap though. i thought seeing more wlw stuff than mlm online was just a bias in my social circles but apparently it really is just more common generally
Whenever I see numbers like this I\u2019m always reminded of the scene at the start of Velvet Goldmine where Ewan McGregor is being interviewed and he says \u201cEveryone\u2019s into this scene because it\u2019s supposedly the thing to do right now. But you just can\u2019t fake being gay. You know, if you\u2019re gonna claim that you\u2019re gay you\u2019re gonna have to make love in gay style, and most of these kids…\u201d [points at the crowd behind him] \u201cjust aren\u2019t going to make it.\u201d

I mean the share calling themselves either “gay” or “lesbian” is 2.3 percent vs. 2.6 for men (and I do wonder about that .1 of male lesbians), that’s close, what jumps at me is the 6% bisexuality vs. 2 for men, but I guess as I’ve been saying female bisexuality had a moment in the 90s and male seems due for one this decade, we’ll see after that. I really do think a lot of bi men were identifying themselves as into women thus normal thus straight or into men thus gay.
