Growing up in the aftermath of the 80s I always took mascots for granted but within this framework the Cheddar Goblin segment in Mandy (2018) starts to make more sense as a period-piece callback. </p></div>\n<p>I mean it was really the combination of the &ldquo;ad wars&rdquo; when businesses had expanded and consolidated to the point all they could do was puff up identity and tear their competitors down</p><p>x</p><p>the peak of &ldquo;practical effects&rdquo; whether on a one-off VFX model or regular makeup/costuming like Alf (or TNG!) or on an infrastructural level like child actors and stunt casting</p><p>Animated stuff like The Noid, Claymated California Raisins too, the Energizer Bunny was always a prop, but that&rsquo;s also &ldquo;pushing the limits of physical filmability&rdquo;, isn&rsquo;t it?</p>"}
