I mean that’s basically what happened in the 70s with academia, right? They let all the former Weathermen become college professors, but to refer to a political idea as “academic” became synonymous with “beyond the pale”. Nothing academics were talking about was allowed to get onto the mainstream political agenda for 40 years, until a breach some time in the early 2010s.
