To give you some idea of how mind bogglingly vast the Star Trek universe is: there are two series airing right now that are set *eight hundred years* apart, *at opposite ends of the Galaxy*

Of course that kind of thing is purely set dressing; there isn\u2019t actually a whole galaxy of fully-developed worlds within Star Trek\u2019s universe that you can engage with as a viewer, they just tell you such a galaxy exists. This is the nature of all fiction but maybe it\u2019s not a good way of measuring scope? Like I\u2019m inclined to say that e.g. LOTR is \u201cbigger\u201d than Star Trek because the world is more fleshed out, even if it\u2019s diegetically smaller.

Okay, then how about this: there’s a bit character from TNG who just appeared on Lower Decks some 32 years after her last onscreen appearance. I say *onscreen* appearance, because there is a *74-novel-long series of books* about her.

I, who have been reading Star Trek novels for my entire life, have never read *even one* of the novels in this series.

Ok, fair. That’s scope!
